Pinecrest Medical Care Facility held an open house on January 13, 2007 for our Pine Grove facility. On February 6, ten Pinecrest Elders moved into their new home beginning a new adventure into the Eden Alternative.

What is a Green House?

A Green House, “Pine Grove,” is a radically new approach to long-term care.  Pine Grove is home to ten elders.  Ten private rooms and private bathrooms center on the hearth and kitchen area.  It is a special place that looks and feels like home.
The primary purpose of Pine Grove is to serve as a place where elders can receive assistance and support with activities of daily living, skilled nursing care and therapy, without their healthcare becoming the focus of their existence.

How is a Pine Grove different from a traditional nursing home?

Pine Grove focuses on life, and its heart is found in the relationships that flourish there. A radical departure from traditional skilled nursing homes and assisted living facilities, Pine Grove alters in facility size, interior design, staffing patterns, and methods of delivering skilled professional services.

Meals, laundry and personal care needs are provided by a team of consistent staff members called “Shahbazim.”  Members of Pinecrest staff have received specialized training to become a “Shahbaz,” paid for by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.  Our physician, therapists and skilled nurses visit the Green House as needed to give care.

Who can live in Pine Grove?

Anyone needing skilled medical care and other services a nursing home provides can qualify to live in Pine Grove.
